Shooting suspect charged in Oct. stabbing
UPDATE: Court appearances were moved to Tuesday in District Court.
A suspect arrested in shooting at Hoopfest on Saturday already is charged in a gang-related stabbing outside a downtown Spokane night club last fall.
Adam Doe, 19, is due in Superior Court this afternoon on charges of unlawful possession of a firearm and third-degree assault on law enforcement.
Also set to appear is Miguel C. Garcia, 19, on two counts of first-degree assault. Garcia is accused of firing a gun about 6 p.m. Saturday near Spokane Falls Boulevard and Howard Street as thousands gathered downtown for the annual three-on-three basketball tournament.
The bullets hit two women and grazed a third victim. Both women were treated and released from Sacred Heart Medical Center within three hours, according to hospital records.
Also arrested in connection with the shooting were Marquis D. Johnson, 21, on a probation violation and Tyrone Carell, 21, and Kalen Bedford, 19, on disorderly conduct charges. Neither Carell nor Bedford remains in jail.
Doe is scheduled for trial Sept. 20 on assault and riot charges related to an Oct. 28 stabbing near Club Uno, 515 W. Sprague.
Five other men were charged; Parrish J. Johnson pleaded guilty to riot; charges against William Alexander-Durr were dismissed. Rashjel G. Cage, 24, and Rakee D. Cage, 23, have pleaded guilty to attempted second-degree assault. John D. Proctor, 24, is set for trial in September.
The stabbing injured Kenneth R. Budick and Charles L. Lucious, according to documents. Witnesses said one of defendants said, “There’s Kenny! Murder One Crips!” before the attack, according to court documents. Budik was a victim in a shooting in 2007 that killed gang member Adama Walton.
Police said Saturday's shooting occurred when two rival gangs squared off, but details of the confrontation haven't been released.
